Artist Statement: Jeff Mincham
Sourced from Sabbia gallery, Paddington, exhibition invitation 25 November - 19 December 2009 “In My View represents a point of firm resolve of the many varied influences that have shaped my thinking over a long working life in ceramics. It brings together my life long enthusiasm for the landscape and my commitment to ceramics as art, it explains the inspirations and I hope the aspirations of my position as a ceramic artist in these times – simply put – it’s my view”. Cherryville, Oct. 2009. Jeff Mincham has been represented Sabbia Gallery since 2005, and has been one of the gallery’s most successful and influential artists. His ceramic works have graced significant public and private collections both here and overseas with a career spanning 30 years. His artworks speak of nature, earth and clay. He is a passionate artist who is heavily influenced by his environment. He entrenches himself in both his medium and his surroundings – both are as important as the other. His sense of place, from growing up alongside the now environmentally fragile ecosystem that is the Coorong and his memories for how it was when he was a child, to his nook in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia, nature and his practice are intertwined, and his pieces are a homage to his memories. ....Recognised as a living Treasure: Master of Australian Craft, Mincham has at last been acknowledged as the iconic maker that he is, and for the enormous contribution that he has made to the medium of ceramics over his incredible career… Internet links: |
